South Cathedral Mansions is nestled at the northwest corner of Cathedral and Connecticut Avenues in the heart of Woodley Park. Getting around the neighborhood
Woodley Park is not only a very walkable neighborhood, but the flat grade and excellent bike lanes make riding around town a breeze. South Cathedral Mansions is also just steps away from the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro station and three blocks from the Cleveland Park metro station.
Smithsonian National Zoo
Just across Connecticut Avenue from South Cathedral Mansion’s Woodley Park apartments is the area’s main attraction, the Smithsonian National Zoo. Home to over 1,800 animals including the city’s famed giant pandas, the National Zoo is a great way to spend a day out. If the kids want to take a break from learning about komodo dragons and rhinos, they can ride the colorful carousel or take a trip on the train.
Rock Creek Park
While Rock Creek Park stretches all the way to the Maryland border, the major entrance is right here in Woodley Park. The park has over 32 miles of biking and running trails, as well as workout stations, picnic spots, tennis courts, and a nature center. For a taste of history, you can also visit Pierce Mill, a working 19th-century grist mill.
Why visit a modern Cineplex when you can catch first-run movies at the Art Deco-style Uptown Theater? This restored, 1936 gem has lots of old-timey touches, including balcony seats and a retro ticket booth.
Grab a bite
The cafes and restaurants in Woodley Park cater to a diverse range of culinary tastes, including succulent Cajun-style seafood (Hot N juicy Crawfish), garlicky Mediterranean cuisine (Lebanese Taverna), fresh sushi (Tono Sushi) and a funky American diner (Open City).
Markets and grocery stores are within easy walking distance, and you can satisfy your sweet tooth by picking up some cakepops at Baked by Yael or a pint of ice cream at Baskin-Robbins. There are also a number of places to grab a cocktail such as Macintyre’s, or relax with a glass of wine at Ardeo+Bardeo after a long day at work.
